Chapter 25: Donation
Twenty minutes later, the driver pulled the car into the garage of Jialin Jingyuan. Jiang Suizhou silently pulled Guan Xi out of the car. Seeing her swaying and struggling to stand, he decided to carry her on his back. However, Guan Xi, still lying on his back, couldn’t stay still. When they walked towards the elevator, she kept playing with his face.
“What are you doing?” Jiang Suizhou lost his temper with her constant teasing.
Guan Xi hummed and imitated his usual manner, pinching his cheeks, forcibly turning his head, and then giving him a deep kiss. Jiang Suizhou, still carrying her, couldn’t free his hands and had to stop walking, letting her kiss and nibble as she pleased.
After dozens of seconds, Guan Xi’s lipstick was mostly gone.
She stopped and leaned against his shoulder, asking softly, “What were you doing in the private room just now? With so many people watching, playing kissing games, can’t I give you a good kiss now?”
Jiang Suizhou’s voice became somewhat deep, “You’re embarrassed?”
“It’s not that, just…”
“What?”
Guan Xi lightly bit her lip, embracing him, “It’s just that you were testing my willpower. If there weren’t others around, I would have pressed you on the sofa directly, believe it or not.”
Jiang Suizhou was slightly taken aback, and a barely visible smile appeared at the corner of his mouth, “Why didn’t you say it earlier? If you had, you could have come back earlier.”
Guan Xi snorted lightly, “Let’s go, let’s go back.”
Jiang Suizhou carried her to the elevator. Guan Xi lay on his back and only calmed down after entering the elevator. In fact, she wasn’t joking. When he suddenly kissed her in the private room just now, her heart almost stopped. That feeling, familiar yet unfamiliar.
She thought, Jiang Er Gou’s attraction to her was becoming stronger. The elevator slowly ascended. When they arrived home, Jiang Suizhou opened the door, put her down, and quickly turned around, pressing her against the door, unabashedly kissing her.
Guan Xi hadn’t even reacted yet when the back of her head hit his palm.
Because the lights were off in the room, everything was still pitch black in front of her, and her movements slowed down. However, Jiang Suizhou was a bit urgent, his lips and tongue sweeping over hers, the rustling sound of fabric, and in the darkness, only the faint, heavy sound of breathing remained.
Their intimacy, usually bold enough, fueled by alcohol, became even more passionate. After stumbling all the way to the sofa, he eagerly buried them both in the realm of tenderness. The lights still weren’t turned on, only a faint glimmer seeping through the thick curtains.
In the dim light, Jiang Suizhou looked at Guan Xi. A faint blush adorned her cheeks, her lips slightly parted, and her eyelashes trembled ever so subtly with emotion, making her breathtakingly beautiful.
For some reason, a memory flashed in his mind, the day at home when his family, devoid of any emotions, had coldly suggested, “Just break up.”
In that moment, his rationality told him it might be best to break up, but after those three words passed through his mind, an overwhelming sense of suffocation surged, accompanied by a chilling coldness—
He thought that once they broke up, she wouldn’t be his anymore. In the deep darkness, unaware of how intoxicated they were, they moved from the living room back to the bedroom, entwining each other shamelessly. Guan Xi’s responses shifted from initial enthusiasm to later evasions and struggles, both in sound and expression.
Finally, as the dust settled, they embraced each other and fell asleep.
**
The next day, the weekend.
Guan Xi woke up with a throbbing headache in her temples. She wasn’t sure if it was from drinking too much yesterday or getting too carried away with Jiang Suizhou. After finishing her morning routine and coming out of the room, the housekeeper was cooking in the kitchen, and Jiang Suizhou was sitting in the living room, talking on the phone.
Guan Xi nestled softly on the sofa, picked up a cup of steaming hot water from the coffee table, and took a few sips. After her throat felt better, she kicked Jiang Suizhou’s thigh.
He glanced at her, held onto her ankle, and continued the conversation on the phone. Guan Xi watched him for a while, seeing that he was still discussing important matters, she didn’t disturb him further. Instead, she took out her phone and lingered on a page that Yang Qing had sent her.
“Okay, understood. Just have them deliver the contract to the company on Monday… Hmm,” Jiang Suizhou finished the last sentence and hung up the phone.
He turned to look at Guan Xi, who was still browsing her phone, her feet now resting on his lap. Guan Xi’s feet were very fair, with delicate skin on the instep, small enough to be held in one hand.
Jiang Suizhou pinched her ankle and asked, “What happened just now?”
Guan Xi hesitated, “Huh? Nothing happened.”
Jiang Suizhou said, “Didn’t you have something to say?”
Guan Xi put down her phone, “Oh… just suddenly thought of a question to ask you.”
“Yeah?”
Guan Xi leaned against him, saying, “Do you prefer receiving a luxurious item of considerable value that you’ve been eyeing for a while, or do you prefer receiving a string of rough prayer beads, simple and sincere, that someone carefully crafted while fasting and praying for two days?”
Jiang Suizhou said, “Guan Ying gave your mom the prayer beads.”
Guan Xi: “…”
Jiang Suizhou: “I would prefer to receive the necklace you gave me, it holds its value.”
Guan Xi: “Right? Right?!”
Jiang Suizhou turned to look at her, cruelly saying, “But it’s obvious that your mom would prefer the rough prayer beads because they were given by her own daughter.”
Guan Xi replied, “Jiang Suizhou, you could use more tactful words. I can understand.”
Without any emotion, Jiang Suizhou hooked his lip and stood up, saying, “Let’s eat, come over.”
Guan Xi stayed put and suddenly asked, “Is your mom good to you?”
Jiang Suizhou paused. Guan Xi looked at him with intense curiosity.
Lowering his gaze, Jiang Suizhou asked, “Is it important?”
Guan Xi didn’t answer immediately. While she felt that at her age, she shouldn’t be too particular about such matters, deep down, she genuinely considered it important.
Since childhood, she had always admired Wei Shaomin. After Guan Ying appeared, rather than saying she wanted to compete with Guan Ying for a stable position, it was more accurate to say that she lacked a sense of security. She feared that if she lost everything and couldn’t bring many benefits to the family, she would be completely replaced, and her mother wouldn’t need her anymore.
“My mom has a relatively indifferent personality… so the kindness she showed when I was a child wasn’t very apparent,” Guan Xi said. “That’s why I’m curious about other people’s moms.”
Jiang Suizhou remained silent for a couple of seconds before saying, “Same.”
“Huh?”
“My mom is even colder,” Jiang Suizhou added, a rare mention of his family.
Guan Xi showed a shocked expression, “Jiang Suizhou, you’re not adopted too, right?”
Jiang Suizhou glanced at her, “Your imagination could use a little moderation.”
Guan Xi closed her mouth.
After a while, the housekeeper set the table with food, and Jiang Suizhou and Guan Xi got up to have dinner in the dining room. Guan Xi ate a bit absentmindedly, occasionally glancing at her phone. After several back and forth glances, Jiang Suizhou directly took her phone from the side of her bowl.
Guan Xi exclaimed, “Hey—”
The phone slid from Guan Xi to Jiang Suizhou’s side.
Jiang Suizhou said coldly, “Can’t you wait until after the meal?”
“You mind your own business.” Guan Xi hurriedly came over to grab it.
Her suspicious behavior intrigued Jiang Suizhou a bit, “Having an affair?”
Guan Xi said, “Yes, yes, seven times already! Give me back my phone!”
Jiang Suizhou gave her a cold look and unlocked the phone directly. He had never seen her phone before, and he didn’t know the password, but he guessed it correctly on the first try. With her self-love and laziness, the password must be her own birthday.
As the lock screen opened, a file appeared on the screen. The file was already opened, and the title above it read: “Henghai Children’s Welfare Home.”
Jiang Suizhou frowned, “Are you trying to find your biological parents?”
Guan Xi immediately shook her head, “No… give it back!”
She snatched the phone back, sat down, and picked up her chopsticks to eat the rice in her bowl, saying, “I’m just curious about this place and wanted to take a look.”
This was the sudden idea that popped into her mind on Wei Shaomin’s birthday night. She wanted to see what her original place looked like.
“When do you plan to go?”
“… I haven’t said I want to go.”
“You don’t seem like someone who can easily change their mind. Dragging your feet like this, in the end, you’ll still go.”
Guan Xi looked at him coldly. So what if he guessed right?
“Today happens to be free. If you’re going, let’s go today.”
Guan Xi was slightly taken aback, “What?”
Jiang Suizhou said, “After breakfast, let’s go together.”
**
Guan Xi swore she hadn’t planned to come to this place so soon. She was just hesitating, curious. She thought if she really wanted to come to this place, she needed a lot of time for contemplation. But she didn’t know why Jiang Suizhou said they were going today, and she ended up getting in the car. After thinking it over, maybe having someone accompany her gave her more courage.
Henghai Children’s Welfare Home was a bit far from the city center. It took over an hour to reach the destination. After getting off the car, Guan Xi found that the place was much larger than what she had seen in the pictures from her assistant. Overall, it was in good condition, belonging to the kind of welfare home with relatively good facilities.
Jiang Suizhou had already informed the staff, so they were quickly greeted. Their pretext for this visit was to make a donation, so the staff took them for a tour. Guan Xi had no impression of this place, but she vaguely knew that this was where she had started. Surprisingly, she felt a sense of familiarity in her heart.
After roughly walking around, they arrived at the backyard. The backyard had some recreational facilities, and at this moment, more than ten children were playing there.
Guan Xi walked to the side and sat down, watching the lively scene in front of her.
“Sister, here you go.” Suddenly, a little girl ran over and handed her a piece of candy.
Guan Xi was surprised, “Hmm?”
The little girl, about five or six years old, smiled brightly, “Sister, you are so beautiful.”
Guan Xi looked down at the candy in her hand and said, “Thank you.”
The little girl leaned in and whispered, “Sister, the brother next to you is also very handsome.”
Guan Xi turned her head to look at Jiang Suizhou and asked, “So, between him and me, who is more handsome?”
The little girl probably didn’t expect such a question and hesitated for a moment, not knowing how to answer.
Guan Xi patted her head, “It’s okay, I know you want to say it’s me. You don’t have to say it out loud.”
The little girl glanced at Jiang Suizhou, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Jiang Suizhou sighed, “I’ll go upstairs with the dean to sign the donation book. Will you wait for me here?”
Guan Xi stood up, “I’ll go with you.”
