Chapter 36: Angry Daughter

At nine o’clock in the evening, Lang Ningyi, wearing pajamas and bunny ear cotton slippers, drove her small Maserati to a small flower bed. She lifted Guan Xi, who had been sitting there for who knows how long, into the car. Lang Ningyi usually lived with her parents, but it wasn’t suitable to bring Guan Xi home, so she took her to a house where she occasionally stayed.

She had already pried the details about Guan Xi’s family from her mouth. Lang Ningyi swore that even though she had read various strange and convoluted novels, she never expected life to be so exaggerated. After all the twists and turns, Guan Xi turned out to be Guan Xinghao’s daughter.

Back home, Guan Xi wordlessly sank into the sofa, while Lang Ningyi sat beside her, looking at her with deep concern.

“Xi Xi, I’ve ordered takeout, it’ll be here soon. Have some food later.”

Guan Xi waved her finger dismissively, “Get me a bottle of beer.”

“What? Why drink? Let’s think rationally now, be sensible.”

Lang Ningyi said, “Well, she was already pregnant at that time, and you know how much importance they attached to descendants and family honor back in those days. Guan Xi put down the beer and shouted, “Yes! I didn’t bring anything given by Guan Xinghao! I don’t want any of it! So, I sat there waiting for you to pick me up. Where else could I go?”

“You can certainly wait for me to pick you up, but, but you don’t want it anymore? What don’t you want?” Lang Ningyi held her face with both hands, “Guan Xi?! You’re Guan Xi! Wake up?! You don’t want anything from the Guan family?”

Guan Xi gave her a sideways glance, “Is it not allowed? Can’t I leave this home?! Or do you not want to take me in?”

“How could that be? If you want to stay, you can stay forever. But the problem is, who benefits from you leaving like this? Those things originally belonged to you. Do you want Guan Ying and the Wei family to benefit? If your mom knew in the afterlife, she would jump out and spit blood on you!” Lang Ningyi said seriously.

Guan Xi remained silent. Damn… there’s actually some truth in that.

“But I’m just angry. I can’t stand to see my dad right now. I get irritated just thinking about him!” Guan Xixi said.

“I know, I know. So, you can leave home to scare them a bit… but you can’t let go of everything just because you’re upset.” Lang Ningyi said, “Oh, by the way, have you told Jiang Suizhou about this?”

As soon as the words fell, Lang Ningyi felt the person beside her freeze. She looked at her, “What? Haven’t told him yet?”

Guan Xi suddenly quieted down, “We broke up.”

Lang Ningyi was puzzled, “Why?”

Guan Xi forced down the uncomfortable feeling and murmured, “Our relationship was originally sustained by external factors. I don’t want it anymore… so we’re parting ways.”

Guan Xi didn’t know how long she sat with Lang Ningyi, drinking and venting their frustrations. Eventually, they went to the fridge for more rounds of drinks, cursing and letting out their annoyance. Not long after, Lang Ningyi’s phone rang.

Guan Xi’s phone was already dead and automatically shut down. Earlier, her grandmother had called, but she didn’t let them come to find her. They probably knew she needed some time alone, so they agreed not to disturb her for the time being.

“Who is it, calling me in the middle of the night?” Lang Ningyi grabbed the phone and answered, “Hello, what is it?”

“It’s me, Jiang Suizhou.”

Lang Ningyi was initially furious, but when she heard the voice on the other end, she was taken aback. She quickly glanced at the screen, and regretted answering.

Lang Ningyi cleared her throat and asked, “Oh, Mr. Jiang, what’s the matter?”

“Guan Xi is with you.”

“Or should I go check it myself?”

Lang Ningyi: “…Didn’t you say you could send him away right where you were?”

“I fucking took it seriously!”

Jiang Suizhou reached out, pinching her face and turning her gaze towards him, “Speak, elaborate.”

“Elaborate on what?” Guan Xi recalled their conversation in the office today. She tried to pull away from him, “Let go… didn’t I make it clear enough?”

Although Guan Xi wanted to stand firm in this moment, unfortunately, she had a bit too much to drink earlier, and her whole person felt weak and couldn’t pull away from him.

Jiang Suizhou looked down at her, his voice deep, “Have you thought it through? Don’t do something impulsive just because it’s momentarily exciting.”

“Do I look impulsive to you?”

“Guan Xi.”
