Chapter 75: Extra 09
Lu Feng and Lin Hui were at it again.
This time, the reason was that Lu Feng’s mother had privately called Lin Hui out and offered her 10 million yuan to leave Lu Feng. Lin Hui agreed and took the money without hesitation.
Then, the two of them started arguing. Lu Feng kept questioning Lin Hui, asking if he was only worth 10 million in her eyes.
Jiang Nai found out about this just as she was leaving the office. She drove to the restaurant where she had arranged to meet Lin Hui, and the two of them talked about the situation.
Over the years, the couple had broken up and gotten back together multiple times, but without fail, they always reconciled. This time, however, Jiang Nai felt somewhat numb to their drama.
“He asked me if he was only worth 10 million. Like, hello? 10 million is a lot of money! Do you know how many years it would take me to earn that much? He doesn’t get it at all,” Lin Hui said angrily, shoving a bite of food into her mouth. “His family will never accept me, and he can’t really go against them… I’m almost 30 now, so maybe it’s better to just end things. That’s why when his mom offered me the money, I took it. I’m not stupid enough to turn down free money.”
Jiang Nai listened to her vent for a while before finally asking, “Are you serious about breaking up this time? Or are you just trying to scare Lu Feng?”
Lin Hui fell silent for a moment, then shook her head. “Actually, my family has been pressuring me to get married lately. They even tried to set me up with someone a while ago. Nai Nai, I can’t keep going like this with Lu Feng forever. I want a stable life too.”
“He’s never listened to his family and married someone else. That shows he loves you.”
“Yeah, he probably does love me, but more than that, he just wants to keep dating without getting married. So, this time, I really think it’s time to end things. We’ve reached that point.”
Jiang Nai sighed softly. “You’re going to regret this…”
Lin Hui paused, then forced a smile. “I don’t know if he’ll regret it, but I won’t. I got a huge sum of money out of it. I’m winning!”
—
On the other side, Li Qingji arrived at the bar he frequented.
The night was still young, but Lu Feng was already drunk in the private room. Sitting next to him was Chen Jiming, who looked utterly miserable. When Chen Jiming saw Li Qingji arrive, it was as if he had seen a savior.
“Finally, you’re here. Please deal with this guy. He’s driving me crazy.”
Li Qingji calmly sat down. “Another breakup?”
Chen Jiming: “Yeah…”
Li Qingji poured himself a glass of water, but before he could take a sip, Lu Feng snatched it away. “What are you drinking water for? Drink alcohol!”
“No thanks.”
“Why not! If you’re my bro, drink with me!”
“I’m preparing for pregnancy. No alcohol for the next few months,” Li Qingji said matter-of-factly. “Also, don’t smoke around me. I don’t want to smell it.”
Lu Feng: “…”
Chen Jiming was shocked. “No alcohol is one thing, but no smoking around you either?”
Li Qingji: “Cigarette smoke contains a lot of harmful substances like nicotine.”
Chen Jiming: “…Wow.”
Li Qingji took the glass of water back from Lu Feng. “Give it to me.”
Lu Feng stared at Li Qingji, a flood of curses on the tip of his tongue. “My bro is suffering here, and you’re out here showing off?!”
“You brought this on yourself.”
Lu Feng: “How did I bring this on myself? You don’t understand. My mom offered Lin Hui 10 million to break up with me, and she actually agreed! Can you believe it? Just 10 million! That’s all it took! She just doesn’t love me anymore and wanted an excuse to leave!”
Li Qingji: “If you can’t marry her, it’s normal for her to want to move on instead of being stuck in limbo.”
Lu Feng: “I’m keeping her stuck? We agreed from the start that we were just in it for the relationship…”
“That was then, this is now. People change,” Li Qingji said. “Maybe she doesn’t want to just date anymore. Maybe she wants to get married. Are you going to marry her?”
Lu Feng choked. “You know my parents wouldn’t allow it.”
“If you’re not willing to go against your family, then let her go and let her live the life she wants.”
“What kind of life does she even want?!”
Chen Jiming chimed in: “She didn’t care before and just wanted to have fun, but now she wants a family. It’s normal for her not to want to keep playing around with you. Come on, Lu Feng, after all these years of breaking up and getting back together, it’s enough. Just let it go. Find someone else who’s not only compatible with you but also willing to marry you.”
Lu Feng knew, logically, that it might be time to let go, but the thought of Lin Hui being with someone else drove him crazy with pain.
Li Qingji frowned as he watched Lu Feng fall silent. “There are only two options. One, let her go. Two, take your relationship to the next level, but before that, you need to deal with your family.”
In the end, Lu Feng drank himself into a stupor. Chen Jiming took him home, while Li Qingji returned to his own house.
Jiang Nai had come home just a little earlier and had just finished showering. She was sitting at her vanity, applying skincare products.
Li Qingji took off his coat and hugged her from behind.
Jiang Nai smelled the alcohol on him and turned to look at him. “You—”
“I didn’t drink. It’s Lu Feng’s smell. I was sitting close to him, so it rubbed off,” Li Qingji preemptively explained.
Jiang Nai: “He drank that much?”
Li Qingji: “Yeah. Did you meet with Lin Hui today?”
“Yeah,” Jiang Nai said. “She told me she’s planning to go back to her hometown soon to meet someone her family set her up with.”
Li Qingji raised an eyebrow. “Good.”
Jiang Nai: “You’re happy about that?”
Li Qingji: “Lu Feng needs something to shock him into action. Otherwise, he’ll stay a fool forever.”
—
Later, Jiang Nai and Li Qingji underwent health check-ups and spent three months seriously preparing for pregnancy.
By the fourth month, the drawer containing condoms was no longer opened.
Things moved quickly after that. Two months later, the pregnancy test showed two lines.
Jiang Nai was prepared, but when she actually saw the positive result, she was still a bit dazed. It wasn’t until Li Qingji took her to the hospital for a check-up and confirmed it that she fully realized there was a new life growing inside her.
During that time, the Li family often came to visit her. The house was filled with an increasing amount of health supplements, gifts, and baby items. The baby hadn’t even been born yet, but an entire room was already packed with baby supplies.
One day, Lu Feng came to visit, declaring himself the godfather and bringing a pile of toys.
“These toys are for kids aged five or six. What are you even thinking?” Li Qingji didn’t hold back in mocking him.
Lu Feng: “I know, but I already bought stuff for one or two-year-olds and three or four-year-olds. I’m just preparing in advance.”
Li Qingji: “…”
Lu Feng put the toys aside and greeted Jiang Nai.
After sitting on the sofa and chatting for a while, he “casually” brought up Lin Hui, asking what she had been up to lately.
Jiang Nai said, “She went back to her hometown recently.”
“Isn’t she still working?”
“She took some time off.”
Lu Feng coughed lightly. “Is something going on at home?”
Jiang Nai: “Oh, not really. She recently met a guy through a blind date, and it seems like they hit it off. The guy is also from Jiangzhou, so she went back home to meet his family.”
“What?!” Lu Feng shot up from the sofa. “She’s already meeting his family? It hasn’t even been that long! Does she even know him well enough?”
Jiang Nai smiled. “Maybe it was love at first sight.”
“Love at first sight, my ass!” Lu Feng turned to leave.
Li Qingji asked, “Where are you going? Aren’t you staying for lunch?”
“Lunch? I’m going to Jiangzhou first!”
Li Qingji and Jiang Nai exchanged a glance, both seeing the “I knew it” look in each other’s eyes.
After a while, Jiang Nai got up and went to check out the things Lu Feng had brought, planning to have the housekeeper store them in the baby’s room.
“Cars, excavators, Transformers…” Jiang Nai said. “Does Lu Feng think we’re having a boy?”
Li Qingji: “He and Chen Jiming made a bet.”
“A bet on whether it’s a boy or a girl?”
“Yeah,” Li Qingji said. “He bet on a boy, and Chen Jiming bet on a girl.”
Jiang Nai put down the toys and turned to him. “What did you bet on?”
Li Qingji walked over and gently hugged Jiang Nai. “I didn’t need to bet. Whether it’s a boy or a girl, we’re both winners.”
And they were indeed winners.
Because on the day Jiang Nai gave birth, the person who won the bet received a huge red envelope, while the loser had to give a double-sized red envelope.
Lu Feng lost because Jiang Nai gave birth to a baby girl.
But that didn’t stop him from happily transferring the money. Every time he came to visit, his eyes seemed glued to the baby.
“Damn, she’s grown a bit… So cute!”
Li Qingji sat nearby, his protective fatherly instincts practically oozing from his eyes.
Lu Feng immediately toned it down. “Oh, look at me, how could I swear in front of the little princess… Sorry, sorry.”
“Exactly, you’re hopeless,” Chen Jiming said. “Move over, let me take a look.”
“There’s plenty of space.”
“I want a closer look. Hmm, she kinda looks like Jiang Nai.”
“She also looks like Li Qingji. Look at her eyes, they’re exactly the same color.”
The two of them started quietly discussing the baby, while Li Qingji turned and saw Jiang Nai standing at the doorway, smiling as she watched them.
He walked over and asked, “Why aren’t you resting more?”
Jiang Nai had been very weak after giving birth, and although she had recovered somewhat, Li Qingji was still worried about her health and kept a close eye on her.
Jiang Nai: “I’ve been resting for two hours already. If I sleep any more, I won’t be able to sleep tonight. When did those two get here?”
Li Qingji: “About ten minutes ago. They said they were passing by.”
“Oh.”
Just as they finished speaking, the sound of a baby crying came from the room.
The two men by the bed immediately panicked, their heads snapping toward the source of the noise. Li Qingji, however, remained calm. He walked over, checked on the baby, and quickly determined that she was hungry. He went to prepare a bottle of milk.
He was very skilled, going through the steps with ease before calmly returning to pick up the crying baby and feed her.
Chen Jiming and Lu Feng watched in stunned silence.
Jiang Nai, on the other hand, was completely at ease. During this time, she had been resting and recovering, while Li Qingji had taken on most of the responsibilities. He had learned almost everything the nanny could do.
“You two can leave now. She’ll want to sleep after she’s done eating,” Li Qingji said.
Chen Jiming and Lu Feng exchanged a look. “You’ve really got this dad thing down, huh…”
Li Qingji looked down at the baby in his arms, his eyes softening. “What else would you expect?”
“Alright… We’ll head out then. We’ll come back to visit another time.”
“Sure.”
Chen Jiming and Lu Feng left, and Jiang Nai walked them to the door.
At the doorway, Jiang Nai asked, “Lu Feng, how are things with Lin Hui lately?”
Lu Feng: “I’m chasing her. This time, I’m determined to win her back. Jiang Nai, can you tell her to stop going on blind dates? No one could love her as much as I do.”
Jiang Nai: “What about your parents—”
“Don’t worry about that. I’ve given them an ultimatum. If they don’t accept Lin Hui, I’ll just stay single and childless. If it comes to it, I’ll… I’ll just get disowned.”
Jiang Nai was surprised by Lu Feng’s sudden courage, likely spurred on by the recent events with Lin Hui.
“Alright… Good luck.”
“Of course!”
After seeing them off, Jiang Nai returned to the room.
The little one was still drinking her milk. Jiang Nai sat down next to Li Qingji and gently held the baby’s tiny foot.
Li Qingji: “Did they leave?”
“Yeah.”
“Once she’s done eating and falls asleep, I’ll take you out for a walk,” Li Qingji said.
Jiang Nai leaned against him, unable to resist touching the baby. “You don’t have to accompany me.”
Li Qingji: “I don’t have much to do today.”
“But I have a Pilates class this afternoon with the instructor.”
Li Qingji nodded. “Then I’ll take you there and wait for you to finish. We can go out for dinner afterward.”
Jiang Nai looked up at him. “We’re going out to eat and leaving the baby at home?”
Li Qingji leaned over and kissed her forehead, smiling. “There are plenty of people at home to look after her. What’s wrong with her parents going out for a bit? Besides, didn’t you say a few days ago that there’s a movie you really wanted to see? We can watch it together.”
Jiang Nai’s eyes lit up. “That works!”
She then looked down at the baby. “Sorry, little one. Mommy and Daddy will be back to play with you as soon as our date is over.”
The baby had finished her milk and was very well-behaved, her big round eyes staring up at Jiang Nai.
As Lu Feng and the others had said, her eye color was almost identical to Li Qingji’s—light and beautiful, like transparent glass marbles.
“Baby, you look so much like Daddy.”
The little one squirmed, her tiny hand grabbing onto Jiang Nai’s finger.
Li Qingji: “I think she looks more like you.”
“Hmm… the lower half of her face does seem more like me, but her eyes are like yours, so pretty.”
Li Qingji: “Is that a compliment?”
“Of course! I think it’s great that she looks like you. She’s definitely going to be a beauty. But… her personality better not be like yours.”
Li Qingji actually agreed with that. “It’s better if her personality is like yours—adorable.”
Jiang Nai: “Is that a compliment?”
Li Qingji mimicked her tone and smiled. “Of course.”
