She stared at him, almost dumbfounded.

At that moment, it finally dawned on her, belatedly, what was wrong—

They had to put on a show in front of Wan Xiuzi, to make people think there was something between them. A lone man and woman locked together in the middle of the night, both “cultivated” lovers, reunited after a brief separation—how could it not feel like newlyweds? Even in such a perilous place, they were, after all, lying on the same bed. If nothing happened, could it still be called “something”?

So, the act had to be convincing!

And that “screaming” was, naturally, to scream…

Jiang Xuening lay on the bed, half-covered by the quilt, her entire body stiffening as the realization hit her.

Xie Wei, being stared at like this, couldn’t help but feel a touch of unease. But in the darkness, it wasn’t very noticeable, and his voice betrayed no oddity, as if he were merely saying something ordinary. He spoke lowly, “Scream out for a bit.”

Jiang Xuening felt an inexplicable surge of nervousness.

Her hands clutched the edge of the brocade quilt, her throat suddenly dry, her voice tight. “D-do we really have to act this convincingly? Besides, it’s almost the middle of the night. Isn’t it… a bit inappropriate?”

Xie Ju’an’s hand still rested on her waist, unmoving. At her words, he only said faintly, “Be good. Don’t make me force you.”

Jiang Xuening’s heart immediately erupted with curses.

When two people are in love, a few cries during intimate moments are no big deal—she wasn’t incapable of it. But to call out like that when nothing was happening, and in front of someone else? Such a shameful thing—she hadn’t even done it in her past life! Just thinking about it made her want to dig a hole and bury herself. Her whole body flushed red, like a boiled shrimp.

She could sense the unyielding firmness in Xie Wei’s demeanor, but no matter what, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. She bit her lip slightly, showing a hint of resistance.

Though Xie Wei was calm and composed, he had lived many years, from the streets to the imperial court. Even if he hadn’t experienced such things himself, he had some general knowledge and had heard a thing or two.

He knew it wouldn’t be easy to get her to comply.

He gazed at her for a moment, then asked, “You really won’t scream?”

Hearing this, Jiang Xuening immediately felt a sense of foreboding.

But it was too late to dodge.

The bed was only so big, and Xie Ju’an’s hand had been resting on her waist the whole time. Without giving her a chance to react, that hand applied a slight force, pinching her.

Her waist was truly soft and ticklish.

She couldn’t stand the sensation, gasping, “S-stop, stop it!” interspersed with uncontrollable gasps of surprise, laughing and trying to escape. She wriggled like a fish in his grasp, yet couldn’t break free.

After the commotion, her forehead was damp with sweat.

Jiang Xuening finally understood the consequences of defying Xie Wei. Seizing a moment to catch her breath, she hurriedly grabbed his mischievous hand, panting as she surrendered, “Alright, alright, I’ll scream, okay?”

Her voice was filled with genuine grievance.

Her eyes were misty, shimmering with a faint haze.

To Xie Ju’an, she seemed to melt under his touch, soft and pliant, like the vibrant apricot blossoms on a branch.

Hearing her agree, he paused for a moment before withdrawing the hand resting on her waist.

Jiang Xuening also came to terms with it.

Xie Ju’an was a man of his word—when he said they had to act, they had to act. Rather than being toyed with on this bed for half the night, left half-dead, breathless, and exhausted, it was better to be sensible and get it over with boldly.

But when the moment came to open her mouth, she still felt a twinge of embarrassed awkwardness. Biting her lip, she said to him, “Could you turn around?”

Xie Wei glanced at her and turned to the side.

Jiang Xuening finally felt a bit better, relaxing her body. From her throat came a vague, ambiguous sound—part discomfort, part pleasure, as if she were floating on water, barely able to endure.

Xie Wei couldn’t see what was happening behind him, only hearing her voice. His body tensed almost instantly.

He knew it wasn’t real, but just listening to that sound, closing his eyes, conjured an entirely different, unspeakable image in his mind. His blood surged, his heart restless.

Her voice was soft and delicate.

When she deliberately let it escape through her nose, it carried an indescribable sensuality, as if she were struggling yet powerless, wanting to flee yet sinking deeper. The faint, tearful gasps gave the impression of being bullied. It was pitiful, yet it stirred a deeper, unspeakable desire to dominate—to cherish her, but also to go further, deeper…

His hand, resting on his knee, suddenly clenched tight.

At first, Jiang Xuening wasn’t used to it, but after a few calls, she grew more adept. It was just making sounds to deceive others—why not make them as pleasing as possible? She even varied the pitch, gauging the emotions and sensations in her voice.

But then, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of Xie Wei.

He sat cross-legged on the outer edge of the bed, his back to her, his entire posture rigid and taut. The fingers that should have rested loosely on his knee were pressed down hard, as if he were suppressing something.

Her eyes flickered, and she suddenly understood.

But in that moment, she almost wanted to laugh.

He was the one who told her to scream, and now he looked like he couldn’t handle it. Wasn’t this just asking for trouble?

Perhaps because he had teased her earlier, or maybe because she resented him for coming up with such a terrible idea and making her do this, a mischievous spark began to bubble up in Jiang Xuening’s heart.

Not only did she not hold back, but she called out even more seductively.

She even quietly leaned closer, right by his neck, and blew a soft breath, her voice tinged with a fake, tearful whimper, “N-no, don’t…”

Xie Ju’an shuddered at the breath against his skin. Hearing her voice, the composure he had struggled to maintain shattered. He whipped his head around, staring at her. But all he saw was Jiang Xuening, looking smug as if her scheme had succeeded, smiling behind him.

Even her subsequent soft moans carried a hint of delight, as if she were enjoying herself.

Having been woken from sleep earlier, her hair and clothes were slightly disheveled. Now, with a bewitching charm in her eyes and brows, her lips parted slightly, exhaling a faint fragrance, her slender neck delicate—she was breathtakingly alluring, igniting desire.

How could he not realize she was doing it on purpose?

He had thought he could stay in control, calm and unmoved.

But in that moment, he could bear it no longer.

The corner of Xie Wei’s eye twitched. Finally, he reached out, pressed her back onto the bed, and covered her troublesome mouth, gritting his teeth as he said, “Enough, no more calling!”

But she hadn’t finished…

Jiang Xuening blinked, wanting to speak.

But as her lips moved, they brushed against Xie Wei’s palm.

He felt a slight itch in his palm, as if scalded by a hot iron, and quickly pulled his hand back.

Jiang Xuening’s black-and-white eyes looked at him. After a moment’s hesitation, she ventured, “Is that enough?”

Xie Wei didn’t respond.

Jiang Xuening knew Xie Wei was a normal man. Anyone hearing a woman make such sounds beside them would likely struggle to endure it—each sound was a torment. Yet, for some reason, she found it a little funny.

But she didn’t dare laugh in front of him.

Biting her lip to suppress it, out of kindness, she added, “Just calling for this short while—won’t it seem too brief…?”

At those words, Xie Wei’s face darkened instantly, like the bottom of a scorched pot!

Jiang Xuening felt a rush of satisfaction after asking, but she also sensed a hint of danger. She knew if she provoked him further, she’d be asking for trouble. So, stifling her laughter, she slowly pulled the quilt up, covering her entire face and head.

Then Xie Wei heard muffled giggles.

The lump under the quilt trembled uncontrollably, even making faint thumping sounds against the bed.

Xie Wei endured and endured, but he had never been so exasperated.

Despite his saintly patience, she had finally provoked his anger.

His hand reached under the quilt, pulling her out.

Jiang Xuening, nearly laughing herself to death under the covers, was caught off guard. Before she could react, a pair of warm lips descended, laced with unresolved anger and a tinge of turbid desire, completely sealing her infuriating little mouth.

At first, it was just meant to punish her, to make her feel afraid.

But after a mere moment of tasting her, the flavor changed. Intense, fiery, scorching—a desire to possess her, to conquer her, to make her wholly his, even more overwhelming than her earlier cries.

Xie Wei’s kiss grew undeniably forceful.

She opened her mouth to protest, but it only allowed him to breach her defenses, their tongues meeting. Her mouth, soft and fragrant, became a delicacy for him to savor. Amid the storm, a thread of lingering tenderness wove in. Her tongue went numb, almost becoming his captive, her mind hazy, her limbs weak.

When their lips parted, her dark eyes were filled with mist.

In the dim light, their gazes locked.

In the silence, they could almost hear each other’s racing heartbeats and uneven breaths.

In that moment, it felt like eternity.

Xie Ju’an, in the end, did nothing more to her. He simply tucked her back into the quilt, wrapped her up, and pushed her to the inner side against the wall. Turning away, he faced the other direction and said, “Sleep.”
