During the time when little Jiang Ci was learning to talk, he was truly very clingy and loved to play around. But for some reason, as he grew up, his temperament started to change. From being like his mom, he turned into someone resembling his dad.

By the time he entered elementary school, he was already an exceptionally calm little kid.

Guan Xi used to think that having a child would surely bring a lot of troubles, considering her own childhood full of mischiefs that often required her dad to come to school and clean up the mess.

But who could have imagined that their little troublemaker at home became extremely stable starting from elementary school, with no troublesome incidents at all. Every parent-teacher meeting, if she attended, would result in the teacher praising Jiang Ci in front of everyone.

The end-of-third-grade parent-teacher meeting was no exception. Jiang Suizhou couldn’t come due to work, so Guan Xi went and once again became the object of envy for other parents.

But in reality, when at home, Guan Xi didn’t really bother about Jiang Ci’s studies. Her task was to play the good cop and have fun with him. Supervision was mostly left to Jiang Suizhou, so getting praised so much and being asked about her parenting secrets made her feel a bit guilty.

But guilt aside, after the parent-teacher meeting, she was very pleased!

After all, one can never get tired of hearing compliments.

“Mom, is it over?” Seeing Guan Xi coming out of the classroom, Jiang Ci, waiting outside, approached.

Guan Xi, seeing that handsome little face, felt even more satisfied. She bent down and playfully pinched his cheek, “Truly my son, getting full marks on all the exams. Just like my glory days!”

Jiang Ci let her play with his face, calmly saying, “Dad said you didn’t do well in your studies when you were a kid.”

Guan Xi paused, “Don’t listen to his nonsense. Didn’t he tell you that we graduated from the same university? I’m very talented, okay?”

Jiang Ci replied, “We did graduate from the same school, but he said you only started studying hard in high school. Your grades before that were not impressive.”

Guan Xi’s face darkened slightly, and Jiang Ci quickly added, “But that’s when you didn’t want to study. Once you decide to study, you’ll definitely be the top.”

This timely remedy worked perfectly.

Sure enough, Guan Xi’s smile returned, “Well, that’s not entirely wrong.”

Jiang Ci breathed a sigh of relief.

He almost said the wrong thing. If he upset her, he’d be in for a scolding when they got home.

“So, do we go home now?” Jiang Ci held her hand and asked.

“Go home? How can we just go home?” Guan Xi said, “You did so well in your final exams; we must buy you a gift. Tell me, what do you want?”

Jiang Ci furrowed his brow, “I don’t want to buy a gift.”

“That won’t do. You must reward yourself for doing well. It’s our family motto. Come on, tell me, I’ll buy you anything.”

“…I don’t want anything.”

Guan Xi insisted, “It’s okay if you can’t think of anything right now. Let’s just go and look around. After seeing things, you’ll definitely know what you want.”

After more than ten minutes, Jiang Ci found himself being dragged into the car by Guan Xi.

Guan Xi drove, and Jiang Ci silently took out his phone to message Jiang Suizhou.

【Dad, the parent-teacher meeting is over.】

Jiang Suizhou: 【Are you heading home?】

Jiang Ci: 【No… Miss wants to take me to buy a gift.】

After waiting for a while without a reply, Jiang Ci finally received a one-word response from his dad: 【Good】.

Jiang Ci suddenly felt a bit nervous and typed rapidly: 【You come in an hour, I’ll send you the address, you must come.】

“What are you doing, Ci? Don’t play with your phone in the car, or you might get motion sick,” Guan Xi glanced at him and said.

Jiang Ci nodded and put his phone into his backpack. After a while, the two arrived at the shopping place. Guan Xi took him to the fifth-floor children’s section and let him choose freely.

Jiang Ci wasn’t particularly interested in gifts because their house was already filled with so many things. Parents’ friends, uncles, and aunts often sent interesting items, and he couldn’t keep up with playing.

But this time, he didn’t want to disappoint Guan Xi, so he chose something he often played with – LEGO.

“This one is good. Anything else you want, choose more,” Guan Xi said.

“I just want this one,” Jiang Ci replied.

“Only one?”

“Yeah.”

Guan Xi clicked her tongue, seemingly expressing “Why is this child not following me in this aspect,” and said, “Alright, let’s go and pay.”

“Okay.”

After Jiang Ci paid with Guan Xi, he followed her downstairs. As they descended on the escalator, he faintly felt a sense of relief, thinking… maybe it wouldn’t be the same as before this time.

Maybe… it wouldn’t be.

However, when they reached the second and third floors, and he saw the dazzling luxury and jewelry stores, and his mom led him past the descending escalator with bright eyes toward those storefronts, Jiang Ci’s small body trembled.

Well… there’s no escaping this!

His mom, whenever she went shopping, how could she just buy one thing and leave!!!!

A few minutes later…

“Baby, which one looks good? This one, or the one I tried on just now.”

Jiang Ci sat in the chair in the store, watching his mom, as always, changing into a new dress and fluttering in front of him like a butterfly.

Jiang Ci skillfully said, “They all look good.”

“Really? Okay then, I’ll just have to buy them all.”

“Okay, sure.”

After leaving the clothing store, they entered another one. Jiang Ci, dragging his LEGO box, silently found a place to sit again.

This time it was a shoe store.

“Bring all the new styles; let my baby see which one he likes,” Guan Xi said.

The store clerk was completely captivated by the appearance of this mother-son duo and nodded, “Sure, please wait.”

While the clerk went to fetch the shoes, the other two stood by, waiting for instructions and chatting with Guan Xi.

“Is he really your son? You look so young; it doesn’t seem like you have such a big son.”

Guan Xi smiled, a bit proudly, “It’s not too bad.”

“The little handsome guy is so good-looking, just like you.”

Guan Xi glanced at Jiang Ci and honestly said, “Actually, he looks more like his dad.”

“Really? But I think his eyes look like yours, so cute, and his eyelashes are so long.”

“He even accompanies you shopping? He’s so well-behaved.”

“So adorable…”

The two store clerks were genuinely melted by little Jiang Ci sitting on the couch, completely unable to control their gaze.

While being the center of attention for everyone, Jiang Ci remained unaffected by the external noise. Seizing the opportunity before Guan Xi could pull him to ask which one looked good, he sent a message on his phone: 【Are you here?】

【Dad, where are you now?】

【I’m in a shoe store, it starts with ‘J’.】

The clerk brought out the latest styles, and Guan Xi began trying on shoes with satisfaction. After roughly trying a few pairs, she started asking Jiang Ci which ones looked good.

Jiang Ci, at a young age but with considerable experience in this matter, quickly pointed out three pairs.

Guan Xi looked for a moment, “Hmm… you have a good eye, but I think these two are also nice. However, they clash in style. What do you think, is this pair better, or that pair?”

Here it comes again, the onset of decision difficulties.

Jiang Ci frowned slightly, ready to say the usual line.

However, before he could speak, someone else beat him to it.

“Then let’s buy them all.”

Jiang Ci turned abruptly, and there he saw the person who spoke approaching from behind. The newcomer was dressed in a suit and overcoat, with a tall and elegant figure and handsome features. It was indeed Jiang Suizhou.

“Dad,” Jiang Ci greeted with joy, standing up to meet him.

Jiang Suizhou patted his head and walked to Guan Xi’s side.

“How come you’re here?” Guan Xi looked at him unexpectedly.

Jiang Suizhou sat down beside her, “Ci said you were buying him a gift.”

“Ah… yes,” Guan Xi said, “I am buying him a gift, you see, right next to us. I’m just here to buy myself a gift while I’m at it.”

Jiang Suizhou smiled faintly as he looked at her.

Guan Xi explained forcefully, “The teacher praised me just now, saying I’m an exceptionally outstanding mom, so I decided to reward myself. Don’t you think that makes sense?”

“Yeah, it makes sense,” Jiang Suizhou glanced at the store clerk beside them, “Please pack up these pairs.”

At his age, Jiang Suizhou maintained his looks and figure, exuding an understated and refined charm that even young girls couldn’t resist. The store clerk was initially stunned, then hurriedly started packing the shoes.

No wonder the child is so good-looking… the continuation of good looks. This dad is too handsome!!

**

After leaving the shoe store, it was clear that Guan Xi was going to the next one.

Jiang Ci pulled on Jiang Suizhou’s clothes from behind and whispered, “I don’t know how long this shopping trip will take. Dad, you said you booked a restaurant. It’s time now, should we go eat?”

“Look at the time. Does it look like dinner time?” Jiang Suizhou replied.

Jiang Ci thought about it and agreed, “That’s true. Then is the driver downstairs? Let him come pick me up. I’ll go back first; you can continue shopping with mom.”

Jiang Suizhou: “I drove here myself.”

“…Then, should I call the driver?”

“What are you whispering about? Can you walk faster?” Before Jiang Suizhou could respond, Guan Xi had turned around a few steps away, looking displeased at the father and son.

Jiang Suizhou smiled and patted Jiang Ci’s head, “Let’s go.”

Jiang Ci: “…”

My car…

Guan Xi lived up to expectations, happily scouring the mall once again.

Watching her joyful figure, Jiang Ci sighed, “In the future, when I marry, I definitely won’t marry someone who loves shopping so much.”

Jiang Suizhou raised an eyebrow slightly, “Why?”

“Because it’s too tiring to accompany her.”

Jiang Suizhou remained calm, “You’ll get used to it.”

Jiang Ci’s small face showed great horror; after so many years, he hadn’t gotten used to it!

Jiang Ci: “Dad, did you know Mom was such a big shopper before you married her?”

“I knew.”

Jiang Ci: “Then did you immediately accept it back then?”

“Sort of.”

“Why… I see you don’t really like shopping.”

“I don’t like shopping, but I like her.” Jiang Suizhou patted the back of his head, “Understand?”

“…”

“You’ll understand in the future.” Jiang Suizhou looked at Guan Xi’s figure not far away, saying calmly, “If you happen to meet that person.”

**

At 6 o’clock in the evening, the family of three finally arrived home.

In the garage, after getting out of her car, Guan Xi ran to Jiang Suizhou’s car, “So tired, my feet ache.”

Jiang Suizhou closed the car door and casually said, “I’ll carry you, come on.”

“Thanks, hubby~” Guan Xi joyfully jumped onto his back.

Watching this scene, Jiang Ci, holding his Lego box, stood on the side, “I’m tired too.”

Jiang Suizhou glanced at him, “Then let’s go quickly and rest upstairs.”

Jiang Ci: “…”

“Let’s go, let’s go.” Guan Xi hugged Jiang Suizhous neck, “Baby, today I bought you a tie and a shirt. When they deliver them, remember to try them on.”

“Why didn’t I see you buy them just now?”

“I secretly bought them, it’s a surprise, a little surprise.” Guan Xi rubbed against his face, “How is it? I’m very thoughtful, right?”

“Not bad.”

“Of course~”

The two of them quickly walked away. Jiang Ci, looking at his Lego set from behind, sighed silently… so heavy…

“Ci, why are you standing there daydreaming? Come over quickly.” Guan Xi’s voice came from the stairs.

“I know.” Little Jiang Ci sighed, dragging his Lego set, and hurriedly ran over…

Thank you for translating this novel! I accidentally came across this and didn’t really hold so much expectations. I thought it would be one of those cliche books…I mean it kind of is but how the characters were weaved made it enjoyable. The conflict was mostly internal which is also fun for a change. This was such a feel good read. ❤️ Love FLs like her since she is also relatable with her wants and needs in life with the exception of her wealth tho ? Hoping to read more books like this too ?

Poor little guy. 🥲🤭🤭🤭🤭 Yes, yes. You’ll understand when you met that special person.

It’s a bit sad, tho. That we didn’t hear from GXH after he got sick last time. It’s like he just disappear on that point onward. We even got some closure for WSM and GY. But, nothing on his side.

Overall it’s a good read. Thank you for the translation. Otsukaresama.
